Description JOB SUMMARY: The Code Enforcement Officer is an entry level position that works with a Senior Enforcement Officer to ensures compliance with established Code Enforcement policies and procedures for unincorporated Mesa County.
Essential Duties ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required.

) • Investigates, documents, and enforces Mesa County Land Development Code standards and regulations.
• Responds to minor code enforcement complaints and reports from other agencies and departments on potential violations.
• Works with Code Enforcement personnel and various other departments to conduct research to determine; identity of current property owners and occupants, accurate zoning of subject property, permitted uses within relevant zone district, history of use of property and other factors which may affect finding of violation or no violation.
• Works with Code Enforcement personnel and various other departments to determine a finding of violation.
If a violation is found, initiates corrective action to achieve compliance with regulations without formal legal action whenever possible consistent with Departmental policies.
• Communicates with reporting parties and violators in order to achieve voluntary compliance.
As necessary, issue notices of violations; creates and implements case management plans; conducts follow-up investigations to ensure compliance.
• Compiles and maintains case files and reports from complaint intake to file closure; maintains detailed records of individual cases and of overall caseload activities and trends, including photographs, documentation of case activity and communications with violators and complainants.
• Performs and acts in a professional and courteous manner respecting the rights and opinions of complainants and violators.
• Maintains a high level of integrity and accountability.
• Prepares a variety of written reports, memos and correspondence as required.
• Pursues education and training sufficient to perform job duties including acquiring and maintaining professional certification as required.
• Oral and communications must be clear and effective.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Typical Knowledge Customer service principles and problem resolution techniques.
Principles and practices of record keeping.
Typical Skills Deals with the public in difficult work situations.
Establish and maintain accurate records, logs and files.
Operate and use modern office equipment including computer and various software applications.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
In addition, one (1) year of code enforcement, law enforcement or related experience preferred.
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Colorado driver’s license Supplemental Information PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Work is generally confined to a standard office environment and outdoor field work, including in person contact with citizenry of Mesa County.
